Bathing dates for Ardh Kumbh  

The main & common reason for one to attend this holy festival is to take dip in Holy river, It is said that a holy dip in sacred rivers during Maha Kumbh or Ardh kumbh takes human out of the circle of life & death ( stage known as Moksha ). Pilgrims & Sadhus in great numbers from around the world visit here to liberate themselves. Holy rivers like Ganges , Yamuna & celestial Sarawati at Parayag ( Sangam at Allahbad ) is age old symbol of Indian Culture & Civilization. These river offers purity, wealth, fertility and wash away the sins of those who bathe in it.
Main Bathing Dates for Ardh Kumbh January 2007 

Between January 09, 2001 and February 22, 2001 the auspicious bathing dates are- January 09, 2001 - Paush Purnima,the full moon in the Hindu month of Paush. This is the last full moon of winter. The sadhus are there and first few 100,000 pilgrims will have already arrived. More will come in buses, trains and on foot. Each day the population of Kumbhnagari (Kumbh City) will double. The fanfare will have started as the saints march in.

Bathing Dates

*3rd January 2007 - Poush Purnima (Full Moon)
Last full moon of winter in the Hindu month of Paush. The sadhus at the Kumbh Mela and first pilgrims will already arrive. Devotees arrive in buses, trains and by foot.

*14th January 2007 - Makar Sankranti
day is celebrated all over India through various festivals and pilgrimages. This is the first day of the big bathing days.

*19th January 2007 - Mouni Amavasya
This is "New Moon of the Saints." For the holy men and women it’s the first and main bathing day where they participated in gilded and naked processions. It is also a day when new members to various holy monastic orders received their first initiation. This is the Second day of the big bathing days.

*23rd January 2007 - Vasant Panchami
This is the fifth day of the bright half of the lunar month and is the beginning of spring in North India. Traditionally people wore yellow on this day. It is day when people prayed to the Gods for a good bumper harvest.

2nd February 2007 - Magh Purnima. This is the full moon in the month of Magha (January - February). Winter is a memory and the moon shines over the two holy rivers. This is the Third day of the big bathing days.

*15th to 16th February 2007 - Mahashivratri
This is the Great Night of Shiva, from whose deadlocks the Ganges flows. He married Parvati, daughter of the Himalayas on this day. Shiva has many followers, none more so than the naked Naga sadhus who live life in imitation of him. This is the fourth day of the big bathing days

The next Ardh (half) Kumbh Mela (festival) will be held 3rd January to 26th February 2007 at Allahabad.

In 2010, March-April, Ardh Kumbh Mela will be held at Haridwar at the foothills of the Himalayas. 
In 2013, January 27th to February 25th  Maha Kumbh Mela will beheld in Allahabad (Prayag).
In 2015, August 15th to September 13th  Maha Kumbh Mela will be held in Nasik .
In 2016, April 22nd to May 21st  Maha Kumbh Mela will be held in Ujjan.
